Cast and crew roles for young people between the ages of 9-17, who are at the very start of their filmmaking journey. Each role is specially designed to reflect real life tasks and responsibilities. And you are in full control of your role.
All roles are open to 9-17 years old
Creatives at different ages will be given slightly different levels of responsibility, to ensure younger Creatives have got a mentor throughout the project.

Finding your role
A film set is its own little world. There is so much craft and artistry and hard work in every department, and there is a place for every sort of skill and interest. That is why you are sat there for so long when you wait for a post-credits scene. There are so many artists behind the scenes - and every single one of them is a reason that film exists.
Reels Up Creatives is an exploration, and celebration, of all the areas of film production; in front of and behind the camera.
So what is each of the RUC roles?
Or below is a brief overview of what each role is.
There is no 'role hierarchy' - which means each role shares equal importance
and responsibility. The below list is in alphabetical order.
Art Director
You will design and construct sets and props, working with the production design team to create a unique, effective visual style throughout the film.
BTS Producer
You will plan, shoot and deliver the production's behind the scenes documentary, making creative decisions to best capture the project.
Costume Designer
You will design, arrange and fit unique costumes for each character, working with the production design team to ensure a consistent, effective visual style across the film.
Director
You will create and manage the artistic vision of the film, working with the entire cast and crew to ensure the film is taking the shape you envisioned.
Director of Photography
You will bring the Director's artistic vision to life, using camera, lighting and cinematic language to create a cinematic style that builds upon the story.
First Assistant Camera
You will work on the cinematic style of the film; operating the camera and pulling focus during production. You will be in charge of maintaining the highest quality visuals.
First Assistant Director
You will create shooting plans, ensuring production is efficient, professional and controlled. You will run the film set, having the final say on timings and logistics.
Gaffer
You will design and manage all lighting - creating cinematic environments and working with the Camera team to create a stunning visual style for every scene.
Hair and Makeup Designer
You will design and produce unique hair and make up for each character, working with the production design team to ensure a consistent, effective visual style across the film.
Key Grip
You will be in charge of creating and maintaining an efficient and safe system for all non-electrical kit, managing on-set workflow and health & safety.
Marketing Manager
You will plan and deliver a unique marketing campaign, documenting the production process and bring audiences to the film. Includes BTS, trailers and social media.
Producer
You will communicate across all departments, overseeing the production and ensuring workflow is productive and serving the story. The key logistics decision maker.
Production Design Technician
You will support each production design area in designing and bringing creative, practical visions to life. A very hands-on role.
Production Designer
You will design and create a style across all visual areas, managing the production design team in ensuring a consistent, effective visual design - including set, props and costume.
Script Supervisor
You will ensure the script and shot list are being kept to throughout production, managing continuity and making sure story is always being served.
Second Assistant Camera
You will support the camera team in maintaining the highest level of quality, helping operate kit - and you will load the clapperboard for every shot.
Second Assistant Director
You will manage the people on set - creating call sheets and ensuring cast and crew are where they need to be at all times. You will also support cast in rehearsing and preparation.
Sound Mixer
You will work with the Sound Recordist to design the best approach to capturing on-set sound, and then record and mix audio during production.

Cast
Cast roles change for each production - but there are always exciting, active roles for anyone aged 9-17. Screen acting is a rich, unique art; RUC productions are structured to prioritise independence, creativity and exploration with your role. We have a VERY long list of qualities you MUST have to become a Reels Up Creative. VERY long...
Be aged 9-17.
Be eager to delve into film production in your own key role.
That's it. You don't need any past experience. You don't need to already have a portfolio. You just need a passion to learn about film production and to take on key responsibility in a large-scale production.
Who are our RUC team?
Each RUC production is delivered and supported by our team of Reels Up staff, with the extra support of industry experts. Our team are all film and media professionals, with a diverse range of experience across all areas of film, creative arts and education.
We all have a genuine passion for film - and a drive to widen the exploration of, and access to, film production.
